THE Gilas Pilipinas Women open their campaign in the Fiba Women’s Asia Cup 2019 Division A against Australia on September 24 in Bengaluru, India.
The Filipina cagers will start off their campaign in the eight-team competition against the Opals, who lost to the United States in the 2018 Fiba Women’s World Cup.
Australia, however, lost to Japan by a point during the 2017 Fiba Women’s Asia Cup in Bangalore, India.
The Gilas Women are also slated to face China on September 25 and New Zealand on September 26 to cap off the group stage.
While they are expected to face a daunting task of advancing to the next round, the Gilas Women are aiming to stay in Division A as the last-placed team in the competition will drop to Division B.
The top teams in each of the two groups will advance outright to the semifinals while the second and third placers in each of the groups will play for a spot in the final four.
So far, Gilas Women coach Patrick Aquino has been preparing his wards for the competition as they will also compete in the William Jones Cup set next month.
