EXCEPT for Terrence Romeo and Ian Sangalang, Gilas Pilipinas nearly had a complete attendance in its second Monday night training for the year as it gears up for the Manila leg of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Present were June Mar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio, Jeff Chan, Paul Lee, Calvin Abueva, Gabe Norwood, Jayson Castro, Ranidel de Ocampo, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Marc Pingris, Greg Slaughter, Ryan Reyes, and Troy Rosario.
Gilas pool members Mo Tautuaa; Kevin Ferrer, and Kiefer Ravena were also around.
Fajardo, Pingris, Chan, Lee, and Reyes however, didn’t suit up and just watched the proceedings from the sidelines.
The entire coaching staff was also present with Alex Compton, Norman Black, Jong Uichico, Nash Racela, and Josh Reyes joining Tab Baldwin, who last week laid down stricter rules on absences amid the contninued poor attendance in practices.
“It’s much better. We still have a lot sitting on the side, but simply for good reasons,” said Baldwin after the practice. “But more on the court, and obviously we upped the intensity a little bit this week. So I feel much better. This is what I’m hoping for and this is what I’ve asked them to do.”
Rosario, Reyes, Castro, De Ocampo, Ganuelas-Rosser, and Tautuaa also had to be excused from the other side of the Moro Lorenzo gym court inside the Ateneo campus, where Tropang TNT held its practice with new import David Simon in tow.
Just last week, Baldwin lamented the absence of several players in the Gilas pool when the team resumed its weekly training for the first time in two months.
