GILAS Pilipinas bounced back from a tough loss on Sunday to subdue the Lithuania 20-and-under national team, 83-75 for its third win in four tuneup games Tuesday night at the Nida gym in Neringa, Lithuania.
Despite committing numerous turnovers in the game, national coach Chot Reyes chose to look at the positive.
“Beat d tall, tough U-20 NT, 83-75. Still a lot of TOs, still shot poorly from 3,but saw a lot of +s,” Reyes said in his Twitter account @coachot after the game.
Reyes said the team had to scrape past a tall Lithuanian 20-and-under side, which featured three players, who played in a US NCAA Division school.
Speedy guard Jason Castro led Gilas with 14 points, while Marcus Douthit added 12.
The National squad won its first two tuneup games, an 81-76 victory over Klaipedos Neptunas, before whipping Birstono Jazz-Diremta, 74-63.
Gilas then dropped an 86-89 decision to LSU-Baltai for its first loss in Lithuania.
The Filipinos, who are using the Lithuania trip as part of their buildup for the Fiba Asia men’s championships in Manila this August, face the Lithuania 20-and-under team again on Thursday night before getting another shot at LSU-Baltai in the last of its six-game schedule in the training camp.
