THE Gilas cadets finally got a win in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup as it grinded out a 72-63 win over Perpetual Help on Wednesday in San Juan.

After losing their first three games at the hands of powerhouses Ateneo, San Beda and La Salle, the cadets finally showed better cohesion particularly showed in the fourth quarter when they pulled away for good.

Gilas surged ahead in the final 10 minutes behind Kenneth Tuffin and Juan Gomez de Liano's offense and a defense that starved the Altas during a 21-12 run.

“It makes us breathe for a while after three straight losses against three champion teams,di ba,” said said Jong Uichico, who called the shots for the Gilas cadets.

“It’s not fair naman to blame the players and the coach. This is just chemistry building among the players. Of course we want to win but our goal is to get them to learn to play together.”
