THE Philippines continued its strong showing even after securing a place in the Fiba Asia Championship, clobbering Brunei, 140-29, on Thursday for its biggest winning margin in 11th Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Championship on Thursday in the at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
Seven players led by Bobby Ray Parks scored in double figures for the Gilas cadets as they posted a 111-point victory over hapless Brunei, still winless after four matches.
The Philippines notched its fourth win in as many matches and goes for the Seaba title on Friday against host Singapore to end the round-robin tournament. The team that finishes with the best record takes home the crown.
Parks finished with 19 points, while Kevin Ferrer and Russel Escoto chipped in 18 points apiece for the Philippines, which didn’t even field naturalized player Marcus Douthit.
Troy Rosario had 17 points while Almond Vosotros had 14 points, 11 coming in the first half that saw the Philippines get ahead 68-16.
The Philippines limited Brunei to only three points in the third quarter, the basket coming with 36 seconds remaining in the period for a 105-19 lead. The lead reached 100 points on a jumper by Escoto, 123-23.
