Hapee players not complaining shuffling time suiting up for D-League and national team

    Jun 4, 2015

HAPEE players who are members of Gilas Pilipinas cadet had little time to rest and celebrate their quarterfinal win over Jumbo Plastic on Thursday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.

Baser Amer, Troy Rosario, and Scottie Thompson went straight to nearby Meralco gym due to an early call time for the national team’s 8 p.m. practice, just two days before it leaves for the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Jumbo Plastic star Jiovani Jalalon also linked up with his Gilas teammates following the game.

“Kailangan mag-training mamaya para sa bayan eh,” Amer, one of the last-minute additions of coach Tab Baldwin in the 12-man squad, said in a quick chat with

Thompson tried to make the most of his last game for the Fresh Fighters as he played despite nursing a torn hamstring that was supposed to sideline him the rest of the conference.

And there’s no stopping the reigning NCAA MVP from practicing and playing for the national team.

“Mahirap ang training pero dami ko matututunan,” Thompson said.

Rosario, who had 17 points, seven boards, two blocks, and one assist for Hapee, is likewise not complaining.

“Kailangan na ulit mag-focus para makuha yung gusto natin para sa bansa,” Rosario said.

The training will be the last for the team before it departs for Singapore on Saturday afternoon.

Hapee would be without its three key players when it takes on Cebuana Lhuillier in the Foundation Cup semifinals starting Monday.
