Gilas bound for Hangzhou after ruling Got Game 3x3 meet

GILAS Pilipinas A earned the right to represent the country in the FIBA Deqing Challenger in Hangzhou, China this November after topping the just-concluded Got Game 3x3 at the PUP gymnasium in Sta. Mesa.

The quartet of Rey Remogat, Patrick Sleat, Jun Roque, and JM Tulabut beat Kuala Lumpur in the finals, 19-15.

Roque led the Filipinos with nine points, Remogat - adjudged as Finals MVP - added seven points, and Sleat got two and seven rebounds, while Tulabut rounded out the scoring for Gilas, which also had Jynno Ladimo as reserve.

    The KL side was bannered by 6-foot-4 Congolese-Malaysian Tychique Bosango, alongside Ooi Xian Fu, Lee Jia Jun, and Leong Zhen Kang.

    Coached by Patrick Fran and Lester Del Rosario, Gilas lost its initial battle against Kuala Lumpur in pool play, 19-17.

    But following the loss, the Filipinos racked up six straight wins including its payback against the Malaysian team.

    Remogat and Roque made it to the Mythical Team along with Bosango, Jia Jun, and Gilas Pilipinas B guard Jeff Manday.

    The Got Game 3x3 is a brainchild of tournament president Gerald Anderson in his own personal capacity to have an active halfcourt game league in the country, and with help from Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al S. Panlilio, executive director Erika Dy, and 3x3 program director Ronnie Magsanoc.

    Gilas Pilipinas B bagged third place after beating Juan Pay, 21-16

    Aside from Manday, also comprising Gilas B are Reymar Caduyac, Red Cachuela, and JJ Manlangit (reserve).

    Magsanoc also serves as team manager, Rylle Ty is physical trainer, and Ariel Pilongco as team utility.

    A total of 16 teams including Malaysia participated in the event.

    Apart from the two Gilas teams, Kuala Lumpur, and Juan Pay, teams which also saw action include Cornerstone College, Doc Boleros, JPee’s Grill House, Khaoyai Chichi, New Era University, PUP, Pureblends Corp., Smile 360 Bullies, Sports Flooring, Taho Story, The Th3rdfloor, and Uncle Drew Pilipinas.

    The SBP and management of Got Game 3x3 are planning to hold the meet on a monthly basis beginning January of next year.
