GERRY Esplana has resigned as the head coach for Valenzuela SPVTOP Marketplace in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
The 1990 PBA Rookie of the Year stepped down from the post after the Classic suffered a three-game losing streak that saw them go from the top half of the North Division to an even 4-4 win-loss slate in the ongoing 2019-2020 Lakan Cup.
Sources close to the situation bared the news, with Valenzuela team manager Voltaire Ora confirming the development.
Esplana remains as a vital part of the team, although he will return to the end of the local government as the sports director of Valenzuela City.
Replacing Esplana at the helm will be local coaching legend Demy Salenga, who will start his journey on Wednesday when Valenzuela battles the Pampanga Giant Lanterns at Angeles University Foundation Gym.
Paulo Hubalde and Chris de Chavez will be tasked to lead the rejigged Classic as they aim to end this skid.
