GERALD Anderson was nowhere in sight for the Marikina Shoemasters in the second leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President's Cup on Sunday at SM Megamall Events Center in Mandaluyong.
Organizers shared that coach Elvis Tolentino bared that the award-winning actor "had an emergency" and was forced to miss the leg, leaving Marikina with just RJ Deles, Irvin Mendoza and Dexter Mescallado.
JC Po came in late for the team and was able to suit up for the Shoemasters as Anderson's replacement.
However, Marikina finished dead last in Pool D, falling to Pasay, 16-21, before bowing to San Juan Knights-Go for Gold, 11-21.
The Shoemasters brass, though, remains intent on fielding Anderson in the next legs of the first-of-its-kind 3x3 league in the country.
He is suiting up for the team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) in the ongoing 2019 Anta Datu Cup.
Carga Valenzuela Classic also encountered problems in the second leg due to some scheduling conflict.
The team was forced to default its Pool C game against Bacoor Strikers as players came from Zamboanga for its MPBL game on Saturday night.
Paolo Hubalde and Chris de Chavez went straight from the airport to the venue as they were still able to help Carga Valenzuela, together with Mac Andaya and Jan Jamon, take a 21-20 victory over Vigan Baluarte.
Unfortunately, their best efforts could not help the Classic advance to the semifinals as the Wolves got the final ticket and went on to engage on a highly-entertaining duel against eventual second leg champions Pasig Grindhouse Kings.
