    GERALD Anderson who?

Holy Trinity College didn’t need the actor to finally draw attention in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup as it stunned University of the Philippines, 94-85, on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan to end its preseason campaign in style.

Even without Anderson, whose much-hyped tournament debut was cancelled as the game coincided with a shoot, the Wildcats showed the desire that was missing in their previous games to score the huge upset over a UAAP squad.

It was the first and only victory in six games for the General Santos-based squad, which handed the Maroons their third loss in four games.

“Ngayon lang lumabas yung laro namin,” Wildcats coach Paul Torrijos said.

“Pinaghandaan talaga namin ang UP,” said starting guard Meylan Landicho, who registered an all-around 18 points, eight boards, and six assists. “Kasi sila yung team na tingin naming makaka-tsamba kami.”

Five other Wildcats scored in double-figures, led by Edson Battiller’s 21, including a triple that put an end to the Maroons’ late comeback from 22 points down.

The Wildcats were on the driver’s seat from start to finish, but saw the Maroons threaten behind Henry Asilum, Diego Dario, and Dave Moralde.

Asilum, who fired a team-high 20 points on a perfect 7-of-7 clip from two-point range, sparked the run, while Moralde, the former San Beda Red Lion, capped it with a jumper that cut the lead to just two, 76-78 with a little over four minutes to go, before the Wildcats held on.
