EMILIO Aguinaldo College finally scored its first win in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup preseason tournament, turning back San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 73-68, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Cameroonian center Noube Happi came away with 19 points and 17 rebounds, one steal and one block and the Generals held the Stags scoreless in the last two minutes to finally register a win after five losses.
"I feel great, coming back from last time versus La Salle,” Happi said, referring to a 63-91 defeat to La Salle recently.
From a close, 22-21, first quarter, the Generals poured in 20 points while limiting the Golden Stags to a seven-point production to take a comfortable, 42-28, lead at the half.
San Sebastian rallied to tie the game at 68-all after a Jon Rebollos three-pointer off a Jaymark Perez pass with 2:05 left to play, but the Stags failed to score after that.
"Siguro kasi lamang kami kaya kaya 'yung intensity noong depensa namin bumaba," said EAC coach Gerry Esplana.
"(But) this is a good win for us as we are trying to give everyone a chance to play," he added.
Rebollos had 15 markers for SSC-R, while Raffy Gusi chipped in with 12 for the Golden Stags, who are now 2-6 in Group B.
