EMILIO Aguinaldo College whipped San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 77-56, in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.

Jan Jamon fired 21 points, including four triples, for the Generals, who leveled their record at 1-1 after losing to Centro Escolar University in their first game Monday, 67-76.

Jerald Serrano added 14 and Cedric Happi and Jack Arquerro had 10 markers each for EAC.

“It was a wake-up call for us,” said Generals assistant coach Andy de Guzman, referring to their previous loss against the Scorpions. “NCAA is just around the corner and mabuti na mag-start na ngayon. Buti naman nag-respond ang mga bata”

Already comfortably ahead at the half, 47-31, the Generals didn’t let up and started the third quarter with 10 straight unanswered points to hike the lead at 57-31.

The Golden Stags countered with an 18-3 run to inch closer at 49-60.

But the Generals still had enough left in their tank, pounding the Golden Stags with a 12-3 run to bring the lead back to 72-52 en route to handling San Sebastian its first loss in the tournament.

“The lead was manageable kahit humabol sila. It took time for the boys to compose and napagod lang siguro sila,” said de Guzman.

Jovit dela Cruz and CJ Perez led with 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Stags (1-1).
