GARY David can finally be called a three-point king.
One of the best shooters during his PBA career without a three-point shotout crown, the 40-year-old David captured one in the MPBL, winning the All-Star side event over 18 participants on Saturday.
“Siyempre, happy ako dahil for the first time na nakasama ako sa three-point shooting, nanalo na ako ngayon,” said David, who only reached the PBA three-point shootout once. “Masasabi ko na isang three-point king na ako.”
The 13-year PBA veteran beat four other finalists including fellow former PBA player John Wilson as well as younger opponents.
Acknowledging that his younger opponents have the advantage, David said his main goal was only to reach the finals and then take it from there.
“Na-challenge din ako,” said David. “Ang mindset ko lang, makarating sa finals tapos let’s see kung ano mangyayari.”
In the finals, David scored 23 points, edging Wilson, James Martinez, Chris Bitoon, and GJ Ylagan to win the plum.
“Sabi nga ni Madam Auring, may asim pa,” said David.
Following the victory in the three-point shootout, David’s focus is now in the home stretch of the MPBL Datu Cup eliminations. Currently, the Risers are on top of the North division with a 22-2 win-loss card.
“Focus na uli sa Bataan. Back to reality na. Magpe-playoffs na. Doon na kami magpo-focus. Ang goal namin ituloy lang namin (‘yung ginagawa namin),” said David.
