COACH Charles Tiu was relieved to end the Dubai tournament on a high note, but said Mighty Sports could have won a couple more games if they had more time to prepare.
Gary David came up huge to help Mighty avoid a shutout, scoring 15 points, all from beyond the arc, in a 14-point win over local side Ball Above All on Thursday.
“They gave their all for the team and for the Filipino community here,” said coach Charles Tiu. “It’s a disappointment that we won only once but we could have won at least two to three games if we had one more practice before we left Manila.”
“I’m not making excuses, but we could have won some games if not for some bad calls at the crunch,” added Tiu.
Jeron Teng, who is signed with AMA but missed a game in the PBA Developmental League to play for Mighty, scored 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lead the club in scoring.
Aside from Teng and David, also shining for Mighty were former amateur teammates JC Intal and Ryan Arana.
Arana did his share by scoring two successive baskets on drives at crunchtime, while Intal scored 10, including two triples.
