GILAS Pilipinas cadet member Matt Ganuelas stole the show in Saturday’s Fastbreak 2 charity game by breaking the rim of the Blue Eagle Gym.
Ganuelas, who will see action for the Philippines in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, dunked after a lob pass by Ateneo guard Nico Elorde for their Blue team, breaking the rim just a minute and 10 seconds into the game.
The game was delayed for at least 30 minutes as officials replaced the ring.
Ganuelas said he was surprised by what happened early on in the charity game organized by Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena.
“It was just a regular fastbreak and I tried to throw the ball down hard and it (the rim) came down with me,” said Ganuelas, who added that it was the first time he broke a rim.
“I had to take a picture,” said Ganuelas.
More than entertaining the fans at the Blue Eagle Gym, Ganuelas was just glad to help out and make the event possible.
“It’s good to be out here playing with the guys for a great cause,” said Ganuelas.
