EDZIEL Galoy scored 20 points and the game-winning lay-up with three seconds left and Taguig moved one win away from bagging the NBL-Pilipinas Governors’ Cup crown with a 102-101 win over Tikas Kampampangan in Game 3 at the packed Hagonoy Sports Complex.
Galoy scored the marginal basket after a drive to the basket a lay-up from the left side of the paint to retake the lead for the Generals. Lhancer Khan missed a jumper in Tikas Kapampangan’s last possession, sending the Taguig crowd in a frenzy.
Taguig won the game after nearly squandering a lead that was as high as 18 points after Dan Natividad committed a turnover leading to an uncontested lay-up by Genmar Bragais with eight seconds left that gave Tikas a 101-100 lead.
But Galoy responded with the game-winner to help the Generals take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five finals series, and on the cusp of their fifth straight championship, and sixth overall in the homegrown basketball league.
Taguig can seal the title on the road on Friday in Game 4 to be played at the Far Eastern University-Colegio de Sebastian Gym in San Fernando, Pampanga.
LJ Mayo had 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, while Natividad had 13 points for Taguig, which was already up, 37-19, in the contest.
Jasper Manalang had 24 points, seven assists, and three steals, while Bragais had 20 points for Tikas, which will look to even the series in Game 4 at its homecourt.
