GAB Banal showed the way as Bacoor defeated Biñan, 78-70, late Friday night in the MPBL Lakan Cup at Strike Gymnasium in Cavite.
Banal had 21 points, including free throws that iced the win after Mike Parala completed a three-point play that cut Biñan's deficit to five, 70-75, with 32.2 ticks left. Banal also finished with eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals, as Bacoor won its fifth straight game for a 14-3 win-loss record.
"Nag struggle kami nung first and second quarters kaya kinailangan naming ibalik yung depensa namin para makalayo nang malaki, buti nag click yung depensa namin," said Bacoor assistant coach Aldrin Morante.
The Strikers opened the fourth period with 10 unanswered points, with Mark Montuano completing a three-point play for a 62-47 lead with 6:17 left.
King Zean Destacamento added 14 markers and 14 rebounds, while Montuano had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Strikers dominated the paint with a 61-46 advantage on the boards and 40-26 in points.
Macky Acosta led the Heroes with 25 points and seven rebounds, Parala scored 13 and Tata Bautista added 12, Justin Valencia
