THREE teams facing elimination see action on Tuesday, hoping to stay alive in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Streaking Boracay Rum and skidding Fruitas collide in the 4 p.m. match, while Café France also tries to stay in the hunt when it takes on Big Chill in the 2 o’clock game.
Boracay, Fruitas, and Café France are in a jogjam at sixth with Cebuana Lhuillier with 4-5 win-loss cards.
Loss would mean elimination, but victory is not an assurance of survival as they await the results of the final elimination-round match between Cebuana Lhuillier and JRU on Thursday.
NLEX and Blackwater have secured outright semifinal berths, while the third to sixth placed teams advance to the quarterfinal round.
Without San Beda’s Ola Adeogun, Fruitas has lost two straight games and the Nigeran big man is still out with a nagging ankle injury.
“We really need to find ways to win without him,” said Fruitas head coach Nash Racela.
“We must do our part in winning the game to at least give ourselves a shot at the playoffs. We are still hopeful that the results of the other games will be to our favor,” Racela added.
The Waves, on the other hand, put themselves back in the playoff picture with four straight wins after a 0-5 start.
“This will be a good test of our character,” said Boracay Rum coach Lawrence Chongson. “Nobody has given us a chance to make the quarters after we had lost our first five games. But we stayed together and kept believing. We’ll see if we can get the job done.”
