CEBU Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. MVP Mark Tallo is relishing the chance to take on former team De La Salle when Southwestern University sees action in the semifinals of the 2013 National Collegiate Championship.
Southwestern University defeated fierce rival University of the Visayas, 68-60, on Wednesday in Cebu for the Southern Islands title and a spot in the Final Four.
Tallo gets his shot against the Archers on December 9 at the start of the NCC semifinals at the Arena in San Juan City.
“Actually, it is hard to explain what I feel about our upcoming games in Manila, especially versus La Salle. But I’m ready to face them,” said Tallo after the win over the Lancers.
Tallo had actually hopped from one school to another over the last few years, leaving Cebu after high school to join Ateneo de Manila then jumping to the Blue Eagles archrival La Salle.
At La Salle, Tallo averaged 1.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 11 minutes of action per game during the 2012 UAAP season.
But with La Salle recruiting yet another point guard in Bacolod wonderkid Kib Montalbo, Tallo felt his time with the Archers was up and opted to transfer yet again, returning home to Southwestern University.
The six-foot point guard had a sensational comeback season in Cebu and was named Cesafi’s league MVP, before the Cobras bowed to the Lancers in the title series.
The Cobras managed to get some measure of revenge by edging the Lancers in the Southern Islands battle, and now hopes to score a big win against his former team in the Big City.
“This is a big opportunity to face them and to redeem myself. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to face them. I’m really excited to go to Manila and show them that I can play against the big guys there,” Tallo said.
