ORGANIZERS of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup have announced that the first meeting of the year between archrivals Ateneo and De La Salle has been moved from June 1 to June 2 and will be played not at The Arena in San Juan but at the much-bigger Mall of Asia Arena.
The highly anticipated game will be played at 6:30 p.m. right after the PBA Dream Game, an exhibition match pitting alumni from the two schools who are now playing in the professional league.
The switch to a bigger arena was meant to accommodate more fans amid the heightened interest on both sides, which went through several key changes from last season.
The match will be the first against the Archers for Bo Perasol, who took over the reins after Norman Black led the Blue Eagles to a fifth straight UAAP championship, and Fil-American recruit Chris Newsome.
On the other hand, La Salle's prized recruit from Bacolod, Kib Montalbo, will be making his debut in one of the most anticipated games in the basketball calendar.
But like last year, La Salle’s Jeron Teng and Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena will once again be at the forefront of the two rivals.
The Green Archers are currently undefeated in the preseason tournament with a 4-0 win-loss card. The Blue Eagles, who are still in the United States for their annual summer training in Las Vegas, hold a 6-1 slate.
