Akomo shows way as Tigers down Altas for first win after starting preseason tourney with three losses

UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas leaned on the double-double of Cameroonian import Steve Akomo as the Growling Tigers scored a 63-55 win over the Perpetual Help Altas on Sunday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.

Akomo had 11 points and 18 rebounds as the Growling Tigers collected their first win in the preseason tournament after three straight defeats.

The Growling Tigers used the third quarter to pull away, outscoring the Altas, 17-7.

Gab Dagangon scored 11 for the Altas.

The Tigers won despite the absence of Marvin Lee, who was suspended for Sunday's game for fighting with La Salle's Ramil Tero last week, and head coach Boy Sablan, who was in sick bay.
