SIDNEY Onwubere winced in pain after spraining his left ankle in the second quarter of Emilio Aguinaldo College's 85-87 loss to National University in the Filoil Flying V Preseeason Premier Cup on Friday.

But the Generals skipper shrugged off the pain to give his teammates a boost from the sidelines.

His presence inspired the Generals to keep in step with the Bulldogs, but EAC’s gallant stand eventually fell short against NU at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Still, the Fil-Nigerian was pleased to see his teammates fight tooth-and-nail against the Bulldogs.

"Lumabas ako to support my teammates kahit sobrang sakit kasi alam kong this year is special for EAC. Sobrang special ng year na to kasi naramdaman ko yung win will be coming to us," said Onwubere, who had four points before hurting his ankle.

"I came out to support them para ipakita na being their new captain andun ako kahit injury ako susuportahan ko sila kahit di ako makalaro sa loob."

Onwubere, who has a week to recover before EAC's next game against Adamson, also remained optimistic that the Generals got plenty of lessons from the tough loss.

"Kinapos kami but sabi ko nga sa kanila, eto yung mga games na you never lose, you only learn. Kasi dati sa amin lose pero tambak. Ito lose, pero natalo by two points lang," he said.

"Nung last possession, may chance pa kaming i-tie yung game pero di lang shumoot. So sabi ko sa kanila it's really a great game. Tuwa nga yung mga coaches kasi kahit papano we’re at this level na," he added.
