JAVEE Mocon finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks as San Beda defeated reigning NCAA champion Letran, 84-70, on Sunday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.

Donald Tankoua added 17 points and 10 rebounds while William Navarro scored 15 points in only eight minutes for the Red Lions, who improved to 4-1 in Group B.

San Beda coach Jamike Jarin played down the win over Letran, the same team that beat the Red Lions in the NCAA Season 91 finals.

“It cannot be. Still preseason. But all the teams are here to win and most importantly, to improve. (Still) it can’t be a basis,” said Jarin.

The Red Lions put on a dominating performance in the second half after leading by only four points, 38-34, at the half in the first game of two rivalry games in the preseason tournament.

“We just made some adjustments. Probably because of live (television) coverage, the excitement, these are kids. You go away from what you should be doing. We were able to settle down and make our shots,” said Jarin.

Ray Nambatac and Bong Quinto finished with 13 points each for the Knights, who slipped to 2-4.
