SAN Beda took advantage of the absence of Allwell Oraeme to beat Mapua, 106-80, on Thursday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.

Robert Bolick had 15 points while Dan Sara added 14 points in a balanced scoring effort for the Red Lions, who improved their win-loss record to 3-1, bouncing back from a 94-85 loss to La Salle.

The MVP of the NCAA missed the game due to fever and San Beda coach Jamike Jarin noted it would have been much different if the Mapua import played.

“You cannot be too happy with the victory because of course Oraeme is possibly the best center in the Philippines right now,” said Jarin. “You can’t take that away from Mapua. It’s a different team if Oraeme isn’t there.”

All 18 players saw action for San Beda, which allowed the Lions to keep the pace up.

“But the effort was tremendous because we were able to rest and rejuvenate,” he added.

Almel Orquina finished with 26 points for the Cardinals, who also played without veteran guard Andrew Estrella. Mapua dropped to 1-4.
