Stags stretch streak to six, secure spot in quarters with big win over UP Maroons

SAN Sebastian turned back University of the Philipines, 64-51, to claim the top spot in Group B of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup on Wednesday in San Juan.

RK Ilagan scored 14 points as the Stags secured a quarterfinals berth, racking up their sixth straight victory after losing the season opener against Adamson.

Jason David hit two consecutive three-pointers in the waning minutes that set the tables up for the breakaway after the Fighting Maroons moved to within seven, 49-56.

David finished with 13 points, on top of four rebounds, six assists and two steals, while helping stop UP star Paul Desiderio.

Desiderio did not get a field goal, his only two points coming from the foul line.

"As I've always said, the good thing about this is they're playing as a team and everyody is stepping up," said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya.

Ibrahim Quattara paced UP with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Diego Dario added 11 markers for the Fighting Maroons, who dropped to 4-2.
