Topex Robinson glad to give ex-Stags discovery Spencer Pretta new lease on life at Lyceum
Aside from CJ Perez, Lyceum coach Topex Robinson also reunites with former San Sebastian discovery Spencer Pretta. Dante Peralta

COACH Topex Robinson kept reaping the seeds he sowed at San Sebastian in his continuous bid to build a competitive team in Lyceum.

Aside from the highly anticipated reunion of Robinson and star wingman CJ Perez, another former Stag has joined the Pirates as Spencer Pretta made his Filoil debut in their 90-89 win over Ateneo on Monday.

"Siyempre sobrang thankful kasi this is another chance. Grateful ako na yung mga tao sa paligid ko since day one, andyan parin," Pretta said.

"That time parang hindi ko nakikita yung sarili ko sa team kaya tumawag ako kay coach Topex, nanghingi ako ng tulong sa kung anong gagawin ko, tinulungan naman niya ako," he added.

Robinson said that it's all about giving his discovery another chance to show what he can really do on the court, something that he struggled to do with the Stags.

Now he intends to put Pretta's potential to good use with the new-look Pirates.

"Spencer has been a shooter since I got him when he was 16 years old. I guess it's just believing in him, that he would take those shots. I guess yung kumpyansa niya yun yung malaking bagay din," Robinson said.

His relationship with Pretta is somewhat special, given that he has been his second father since coming in from Bacolod.

"Medyo isip bata, kasi binabatukan nga ako during games pero I guess that's the relationship that we have," Robinson said with a laugh.

"I'll always be a father to him. I guess that's the reason why he's enjoying the game."

Pretta, for his part, vowed to do it all for a team which embraced him wholeheartedly in his time of uncertainty.

"Magre-respond ako by being ready. Ipapasok ako ni Coach Topex late in quarters, or kahit first five, kailangan ready lang talaga. Gusto ko lang gawin yung role ko," he said.
