CJ Perez insists no extra motivation in impressive Lyceum debut against former team Ateneo

AGAINST his former team Ateneo on Monday, CJ Perez wore a different jersey but was the same beast with an all-around outing in Lyceum's thrilling 90-89 win in their Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup opener.

But the energetic winger, who transferred to Lyceum after getting cut by Ateneo due to academic issues, denied he was extra motivated to prove a point against the Blue Eagles.

For Perez, who finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals, it was just a regular game.

The motivation, he added, came from his teammates and coaches, who gave their complete trust in him despite being the new guy in the team.

"Namo-motivate ako sa mga teammate ko talaga, sa mga coaches," Perez said.

"Hindi ko na inisip yung mga sinasabi, basta ang iniisip ko lang yung team namin talaga, kung paano kami magpe-perform ng maayos. Yun lang," he added.

Nonetheless, Perez was impressive in Lyceum's opening game and coach Topex Robinson had nothing but praise for him.

But Robinson was quick to add that the victory was a result of the team's collective effort.

"Again, the good thing about this team is CJ is one of the best players but he's always the same as the other guys," he said.

"So CJ is gonna win games, he's gonna lose games for us but so will the other players. Again, it's a collective effort, good effort by the coaching staff. Good win for us."
