Monbert Arong shines as error-prone FEU Tamaraws get by SSC Stags
It wasn't pretty, but Monbert Arong and the Tamaraws get the win. Jaime Campos

MONBERT Arong had 16 points as Far Eastern University started its Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup stint with a 77-64 win over San Sebastian on Wednesday.

Steve Holmqvist and Allen Trinidad had 11 points each, but coach Nash Racela was not very pleased especially with the Tamaraws committing 35 turnovers.

“We had too many turnovers. I think we had 19 in the first half. We really need to put importance on protecting the ball and we are not even playing La Salle, Adamson, and the other teams who uses trapping defense,” said Racela.

Ryan Costelo finished with 15 points, while Michael Calisaan chipped in 13 points for the Stags, who played in Egay Macaraya’s first Filoil game as head coach.

The scores:

FEU 77 — Arong 16, S. Holmqvist 11, Trinidad 11, Denila 9, Ebona 5, Nunag 5, Tuffin 4, Nebedum 4, K. Holmqvist 4, Lee Yu 4, Comboy 2, Dennison 2, Roxas 0, Bienes 0.
