SAN Sebastian nearly squandered a 12-point lead but held on for an 86-82 win over National University on Monday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup in San Juan.

Michael Calisaan led the Stags' attack with 22 points and nine rebounds, Ryan Costelo scored 16 and Jason David added 14 markers.

The Stags rolled to a fourth straight win after dropping their season opener but coach Egay Macaraya is wary fatigue is beginning to take its toll on his wards, evident in the fourth period where the Bulldogs erased a 67-79 deficit.

Issa Gaye made two crucial baskets in NU's run in the final stretch, scoring on a layup before swatting Capobres' layup attempt that led to a Dave Yu triple, 86-81, with 49.4 left.

Yu then made one from the foul line but the Stags were able to hold the ball until the final buzzer.

"Maganda tinatakbo ng team pero hopefully ma-sustain kasi medyo napapagod na mga bata. And it showed in the last quarter," said Macaraya.

"But still nandun pa rin yung cohesion at bonding ng team. Wala akong masabi, they palyed hard."

Jjay Alejandro scored 20 points, hitting five three-pointers, to go with two rebounds and four assists.

Gaye chipped in 14 markers and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who absorbed their third loss against the same number of victories.
