KIB Montalbo suffered an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury on Saturday in what is feared to be a big setback both for the guard and  De La Salle's campaign in the coming UAAP men's basketball season.
The point guard was carried off in a stretcher out of The Arena in San Juan after injuring his right knee in the Archers' Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup game against University of the East.
A person close to Montalbo admitted he's likely out for the season.
Montalbo sustained the injury after an apparent collision of the knees with a UE player in the second quarter of the Archers’ 96-82 win over the Red Warriors.
Initially, Montalbo was carried back to the dugout before the team decided to take the incoming junior guard to a hospital during halftime.
“Wala pa. He is in the hospital. MRI. No result yet,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler after La Salle defeated UE on Saturday.
