EMILIO Aguinaldo College pounced on a shorthanded University of the Philippines, 68-59, on Saturday to barge into the win column of the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

Facing a Maroons side that missed standouts Jett Manuel and Paul Desiderio and fielded just 11 players, the Generals bucked an early deficit and leaned on a strong final push to register their first victory in four outings.

Cameroonian center Hamaduo Laminou registered 23 points, 15 boards, and four blocks, while Sydney Onwubere added 16 points and 17 boards to lead the Generals, who outscored the Maroons, 16-9, in the final frame.

"It's a big win kasi malapit na ang NCAA at kailangan na namin manalo," Generals assistant coach Bong Melocoton said.

Diego Dario and Dave Moralde paced the Maroons with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The scores:

EAC 68 – Laminou 23, Onwubere 16, Mendoza 11, Munsayac 8, Pascua 6, Guzman 3, Diego 1, King 0, Neri 0, Aguas 0, General 0, Aderes 0, Umali 0

UP 59 – Dario 12, Moralde 11, Romero 7, Harris 5, Lao 5, Asilum 5, Vito 4, Sablan 4, Espanola 3, Battad 3, Ong 0
