UNLIKELY heroes emerged for Jose Rizal University in a thrilling 61-55 victory over University of Sto. Tomas Sunday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup in San Juan.

Tey Teodoro took a backseat in the endgame as Darius Estrella and Ervin Grospe drained the killer blows for the Heavy Bombers.

With the game tied at 55, Estrella drained the go ahead three pointer with 57 seconds left.

Then it was Ervin Grospe's turn to step up for JRU as he nailed the dagger three pointer off a broken play with 19 seconds to take the fight out of the Tigers for good.

"I challenged them after halftime, sabi ko Iā€™m not happy with how you played, alam kong galing tayo sa laro, I wanna see the effort. Buti na lang nagrespond yung bata," said JRU head coach Vergel Meneses.

"I told Tey na you're a marked man. So you have to get your teammates involved lalo na pag dating sa end game," he added.

Grospe finished with 18 points on 7-14 shooting as Teodoro added 10 points for the Heavy Bombers who won their fifth game in six tries.
