Codinera still in the process of defining a role for new Arellano 'marked man' Kent Salado

ARELLANO University hardly missed former star Jio Jalalon, at least on Monday.

Jalalon’s former backcourt partner Kent Salado pulled off a near triple-double performance in the Chiefs’ breakthrough win in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the expense of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 95-90, at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

He also came up big in the clutch, scoring four points including the dagger jumper that put the game away for the Chiefs with 1:19 left.

Still, AU coach Jerry Codiñera is having a hard time defining a role for high-octane guard, whose partnership with Jalalon did wonders for the squad in its run to the NCAA Finals last season.

"We're still in the process of adjusting on where to put Salado. Hindi ko pa alam kung point sya dapat or scoring guard. Hindi pa namin alam kung saan sya ilalagay dahil sa naiwan ni Jalalon," said Codiñera.

"There's so much to fill sa pagkawala ni Jalalon. Marami kailangan i-adjust from offensive at defensive standpoint," he added.

For now, though, Codiñera was happy with Salado's outstanding play and he wishes to see his other players follow their new leader in turning things around for the 1-3 Chiefs in the preseason tournament.

"Yung support group di efficient kanina, buti naka-recover kami nung huli," he said. "Si Kent marked sya. We have to get everyone involved without sacrificing our defense."
