UE Red Warriors defeat struggling Letran Knights to bow out of Premier Cup on winning note

UNIVERSITY of the East capped off its campaign in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup with an 81-77 win over Letran on Wednesday.

The Red Warriors exit with a 3-5 win-loss record in Group A.

"I think that was our main objective in this game [to win in their final Filoil game]," said UE coach Derrick Pumaren.

"Right from the start, we talked about it that we want to end up with a win. I'm happy that the boys responded."

"I think this is the first time we've beaten an NCAA team in this tournament," Pumaren added.

Alvin Pasaol led the Red Warriors with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in the victory over the Knights.

Pasaol sparked a 6-0 run to give UE a 77-68 lead with two minutes left.

Mark Olayon had 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Mark Maloles added 10 points including a jumper with 1:31 left that practically sealed the win for UE.

Jerick Balanza contributed 20 points, while Bong Quinto delivered 15 points and 11 boards as the Knights fell to 1-4.
