FOR the first time in its history, the Filoil Flying V preseason tournament will hold an All-Star Game.
Dubbed `Master Game Face All-Star Basketball Challenge,' the event will be held on June 8 at The Arena in San Juan and features the best collegiate players from the 18 universities seeing action in the annual summer preseason league.
Product endorsers Chris Tiu and Borgie Hermida will coach the two opposing teams whose starting unit will be voted on by fans on the Master Philippines Facebook page.
The 13 reserves, meanwhile, will be handpicked by Tiu and Hermida, respectively.
Tiu’s team will have players coming from his alma mater Ateneo, Adamson, Letran, De La Salle, Lyceum, San Sebastian, Southwestern University, University of the East, and University of Santo Tomas.
Hermida’s squad, meanwhile, will be composed of players from San Beda - where he played college ball - Arellano, College of Saint Benilde, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Far Eastern University, Jose Rizal University, National University, Perpetual Help, San Beda, and University of the Philippines.
Master brand manager Jonathan Pua said they’ve been searching for a partnership with a basketball league following its successful activities involving the PBA through a basketball clinic and 3-on-3 tournament for children in different barangays, and Jr. NBA.
“It makes sense to partner with a basketball league like the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup,” said Pua during the official launch of the event on Wednesday.
Tiu said he is happy to be a product endorser of Master once again.
“My very first commercial in 2004 was with them. I’m happy to be part of this. I’ll be coaching a lot of future basketball superstars,” said Tiu, a rookie with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Hermida, now with the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League, looks forward to getting involved with the Filoil tournament once again.
“Hindi pa ganoon kalaki ang Filoil noon hindi katulad ngayon,” said the former San Beda star.
