MAPUA continued its impressive run in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup after keeping the young National University winless with an 87-82 win on Tuesday in San Juan.
Former Red Robin Warren Bonifacio put up a strong performance, finishing with 25 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Cardinals who’ve racked up their third win in as many games after defeating University of the Philippines and Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Cedric Pelayo added 17 points, including four straight to break a deadlock at 78 as Mapua took control of the match for good.
Laurenz Victoria added 13 as Exie Biteng, Eric Jabel and Noah Lugo also had strong games with 8 points, apiece.
JV Gallego led the Bulldogs with 16 points as Shaun ildefonso added 15 as they dropped to 0-2.
In the second game, University of the East gifted incoming coach Joe Silva with a win as it debuted in the tournament with a 73-59 result over Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Alvin Pasaol and Phillip Manalang nearly matched the whole output of the Generals as Pasaol exploded for 31, while Manalang added 23.
Silva watched from the back as his wards ripped through the Generals who dropped to 0-2 of the season.
Meanwhile, San Sebastian hammered the Lyceum’s team B in the third game 74-54.
RK Ilagan led the Stags with 14 as Ryan Costelo chipped in 10.
