Fil-Chinese Veterans retain titles in three divisions in Asean basketball tournament in KL

    Sep 10, 2017

FILIPINO-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association stamped its class once again, retaining its three division titles in runaway fashion in the 26th Asean Veterans Basketball Tournament at the MABA gym in Kuala Lumpur.

The 65s leaned on a big second quarter to score an inspiring 64-31 win over Hatyai of Thailand and set the tone for the team’s triumphant day.

Achit Kaw, Johnny Chua, Antonio Go, Zotico Tan, Sunny Co and William Lao starred for the 65s with Kaw leading the team with 14 points while Chua and Tan combining for 18.

As expected, the 60s drew significant numbers from former PBA players Aris Franco and Elmer Reyes, ex-La Salle star Kenneth Yap and Andrew Ongteco, to defeat Pontianak of Indonesia, 67-39.

“It was a nice win since everybody contributed to our title win” said coach Edster Sy, who also called the shots for 65s.

Others who delivered for the 60s were Conrad Siy, Danny Ching, Danny Co, Jose Lao and James Chua.

Their massive title wins came two days after FCVBA boss Jimi Lim was elected deputy president of the association.

“This year is very memorable for FCVBA, we hope we can sustain our dominance in the league,” said the Ironcon Builders owner who was elected to the post unopposed.

Like the 60s, the Mac Tan-mentored 50s also extended their reign to three years following an 89-58 thumping of Kuching of host country.

Allan Caidic led the team anew with 20 points spiked by two triples, including one that triggered the team’s huge third quarter assault that saw them rip the game wide apart.
