TEAM Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao is not inclined to include Kai Sotto in his pool for the 2019 Fiba Basketball World Cup in China.
Guiao said he wants Sotto to focus on his training in the US in preparation for his stint in Europe as well as his campaign with Batang Gilas in the 2019 Fiba Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Greece from June 29 to July 7.
“We already did consider him sa isang window so siguro for now, we just want him to focus on the Under-19 and then focus on his plans to train abroad,” said the concurrent NLEX coach.
Sotto was included in the Team Pilipinas pool during the fifth window but was not tapped for the side that faced Kazakhstan and Iran late last year.
The teenaged prodigy is now setting his sights on a stint in the NBA and the 7-foot-2 cager is starting the ambitious journey by training at the Atlanta Hawks training facility, the Emory Sports Medicine Complex.
The Fiba Basketball World Cup, meanwhile, will be held from August 31 to September 15.
“Hindi na namin siya siguro ilalagay sa pool for this time so that he can focus on those two things, competing in Greece and continuing his development abroad,” said Guiao.
