NATIONAL coach Yeng Guiao said he confident with the available players in the Philippinet team, with Jordan Clarkson not getting the approval to join them in the Asian Games.
Guiao said he has no problem with Clarkson not being around for the Asiad as the team is capable of picking up the slack.
“Okay lang. Lahat naman tayo matutuwa kung nandiyan siya eh. Pero kung wala siya, we have a bunch of guys who will work hard and step up and are determined to represent us in a way that we will be proud. Lalaban tayo,” said Guiao following Saturday’s tune-up game against TNT at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center.
With the Philippines down with just 11 players, Guiao said he will ask the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to appeal if they can still replace Clarkson with another player in Don Trollano, the only PBA player who was part of the pool but didn’t make it to the Asian Games line-up.
“Siguro pakikiusapan natin ‘yung mga officials natin kung puwede ihabol. Kung hindi, we will be happy with 11. Kung ilan ang nandiyan, gamitin natin,” said Guiao.
The SBP has already prepared a jersey for Clarkson in the event that he is given the green light to play for the Philippines in the Asian Games.
Admittedly though, Guiao said he has no idea on the status of Clarkson on Saturday.
“Wala pa akong balita pero whatever it is, we will represent the country with or without Jordan Clarkson. Of course, we would have wanted na nandiyan siya. Pero wala tayong magagawa. We did our best. That’s okay,” Guiao said.
