AS Gilas Pilipinas moves into high gear in its preparation by holding daily practices, national head coach Yeng Guiao plans to bring in players from NLEX due to the ongoing semifinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Guiao bared national team representatives from semis participants TNT, Barangay Ginebra, San Miguel, and Rain or Shine might not be able to participate in the everyday practice of Gilas Pilipinas.
“I might need to add one or two players from NLEX,” said Guiao as the everyday practice of Gilas Pilipinas begins on Monday.
Guiao said he is opting to have NLEX players in practices instead of those who are volunteering their services as extra bodies since they already know his system.
“Alam ko may mga ibang nagbo-volunteer. What’s important is to add some people who already knows the plays and the system so that we don’t need to teach them anymore and they will just be extra bodies that we need to we can practice 5 on 5.”
The eight players are Troy Rosario and RR Pogoy of TNT, Japeth Aguilar and Stanley Pringle of Barangay Ginebra, June Mar Fajardo and Christian Standhardinger of San Miguel, and Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga of Rain or Shine.
Marcio Lassiter is actually part of the list of players who will not participate in practices as he suffered an MCL injury in the quarterfinals against NorthPort.
Guiao said the team is doing its best with the limitations as they prepare for the World Cup.
“We are just looking to get it over with the PBA playoffs so that we can have the national team players fully committed to the practices. Right now, that’s been our limitation, it’s the ongoing PBA semifinals,” said Guiao.
