TROY Rosario is taking his role as a defensive player for Team Pilipinas to heart as he looks to redeem himself in the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers on Monday.
Rosario got the nod in the final 12 for Gilas after he has finished serving his three-game suspension for his involvement in the brawl between Australia last July at the Philippine Arena.
The TNT forward hopes to come back with a bang and help Team Pilipinas as it looks to atone for its loss on Friday against Kazakhstan with a win over Iran on Monday
“Excited ako na i-redeem ‘yung sarili ko after nung nangyari sa third window,” said Rosario. “Time to bounce back after nung loss against Kazakhstan. Sana makuha natin ‘yung panalo.”
Rosario is looking to redeem himself through defense as he prepares for a tough battle against an Iran team that won over Gilas, 81-73, last September.
He also intends to use his strengths on defense against Iran in his return to national team duty.
“’Yung quickness sa four position, either three or four ako eh. Kung may ma-foul trouble sa mga big natin, ‘yung quickness sa depensa (gagawin ko). Switchable ako eh,” Rosario said.
Rosario said he will have little adjustment in his return to Gilas as he is playing the same position in the frontcourt with the KaTropa. The TNT player also said he also had good practices with Team Pilipinas under head coach Yeng Guiao.
“Same lang. Kung ano naman ‘yung laro ko sa PBA, ganun din sa international. Hindi naman nagbago. Maganda ‘yung naging practice namin. Maganda ‘yung tinatakbo ng practice namin. Sa tingin ko, maganda ‘yung chance namin (against Iran),” Rosario said.
