BATANGAS CITY – CJ Perez is set to take part in the Gilas Pilipinas practice on Monday for the Fiba Basketball World Cup.
This was bared by Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao on Sunday following NLEX’s match against Barangay Ginebra here at the Batangas City Coliseum.
The top pick overall in this season's PBA draft will be joining fellow young turks Kiefer Ravena of NLEX and Robert Bolick of NorthPort for Monday’s practice.
“Sa pagkaalam ko, nag-indicate na darating si Bolick at si CJ,” said Guiao.
Guiao said he is expanding his pool in the wake of Jayson Castro's decision to pull out of the team to give him more leeway when he selects the Final 12 for the Fiba Basketball World Cup team in China in August.
“Sa akin looking forward to the future. Although we will be just 12 in the line-up, we need one or two as back-up kung sakaling may mangyari na injuries. Exactly what happened to Raymond (Almazan) nung huli. Si Raymond na-injured sa practice sa Astana, Kazakhstan,” Guiao said.
But just like the time when Kai Sotto, Kobe Paras, and Ricci Rivero were included in the pool during the qualifying windows, Guiao is not discounting the possibility of Perez and Co. making the final line-up.
“I do not discount that they can break in the regular lineup once we get started with them. But basically, we are bringing extra bodies just in case,” Guiao said.
