GILAS Pilipinas coach Tim Cone finally saw Quentin Millora-Brown up close in the national squad’s send-off game against the Macau Black Bears last Monday.

Safe to say he was impressed.

Playing for his new club team, the 6-foot-10 Millora-Brown had six points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one block in their 103-98 loss to Gilas Pilipinas last Monday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

With his physical features and abilities, Cone admitted it would have been great to have a player like Millora-Brown with Gilas Pilipinas.

“He’s awesome. I’d love to have him,” said Cone of QMB. “He is physical. He gets to the offensive boards real well. Great size. But it’s not there yet.”

At the moment, however, the former University of the Philippines big man can play for Gilas Pilipinas but only as a naturalized player as classified by FIBA. The 24-year-old Millora-Brown, however, is appealing his case so that he could play as a local.

“I can dream and wish,” said Cone. “I dream we had Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, you know, but that’s not possible either. But if I had an opportunity, I would love to have QMB on the team."

QMB said he took would love the opportunity to play for Gilas Pilipinas.

“It would be amazing to be able to. There’s so much respect for all of those guys. Just the ability to play for your country is amazing. So if that comes up, there’s no way I could turn it down,” said Millora-Brown.

The Macau Black Bears big man got tested against Gilas Pilipinas. During one stretch of the game, QMB was dunked on by AJ Edu and blocked by Justin Brownlee.

“If you play basketball long enough, those things are going to happen,” said Millora-Brown about that sequence. “If you play hard, those things are going to happen.

“I’m not worried about it. It was a two-on-one situation and you just do the best you can. That’s what you have to do. If you don’t step up to that, you’re not going to be a good player,” QMB added.
