TIM Cone has accepted the offer to coach Gilas Pilipinas in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which the country will host beginning on November 30.
The multi-titled coach of Ginebra made the confirmation in an SMS message to media outlets on Monday.
“Even though my appointment is just a stop-gap measure and a short-term commitment, I am incredibly honored and proud to be selected to coach in the SEA Games,” wrote the two-time grand slam winner.
“Wow! I’m very happy to help in any way,” Cone added.
Cone said he will discuss with Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) officials the plans for the buildup for the SEA Games, where the Philippines is the perennial champion.
A winner of 21 championships in the PBA, Cone said he is hoping that through the series of meetings, he will be able to finalize his pool of players for the SEA Games.
“I will sit down with the SBP over the next couple of days and come up with a plan of attack in terms of preparation, and we’re hoping by the end of the week, we’ll have a pool of players working together at full force.
"I’m extremely excited to get going,” said Cone.
