HONG KONG – Tickets to the second round of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena are selling like hotcakes a month to the event.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced that tickets to the August 28 triple header bannered by the clash between Gilas Pilipinas and Jordan are almost sold out just a week after being put on sale.

“So far we’re very happy with the ticket sales since we opened it a week ago,” said SBP executive director Erika Dy on the sidelines of the EASL Future Champion winner-take-all game between Team Cebu and Team Macau.
“May mga konti lang tayo na hino-hold pa because of some promotional tickets. But they will also be released soon,” added Dy. “Pero kaunti na lang din yun. Kaya nae-excite kami na yung mga fans natin are there to support the Gilas team.”
The August 28 schedule also features games pitting Iran against New Zealand and Syria opposite Australia.
Dy added the support of Gilas’ so-called ‘sixth man’ will certainly be a big boost especially with the national team finding itself in a virtual must-win situation in the second round if it is to make a fourth straight appearance in the World Cup.
“Very crucial games for us. Almost a do-or-die,” she said, noting Gilas is just three points behind in Group E led by Australia, Iran, Jordan, and New Zealand.
“There are six games remaining pa, so marami pang puwedeng mangyari pero magandang makauna na tayo at talunin natin sila itong window na ito.”
Gilas will take Jordan first on August 28 followed by Iran two days later.
“We’re hoping talaga na makatulong 'yung ating home crowd when we play against Jordan and Iran,” added Dy.
