GILAS Pilipinas will have more time to prepare for the third window of the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Sonny Barrios bared that the final window of games for the remaining teams has been pushed back from March to June.
"Ang tinitignan nila is June 14 to 20. Sa ngayon yun ang tentative schedule. Di pa sila maglalabas ng official release pero yun ang tinitignan ngayon," he told Radyo5's Power and Play with Noli Eala.
Clark has been re-awarded the hosting rights for the third window after Doha was forced to cease its bubble owing to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Qatar.
The Philippines is expected to host at least two groups, including Group A composed of Gilas, Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Barrios said the SBP remains in constant communication with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), headed by Sec. Vince Dizon, as they revisit their talks on the staging of the bubble, just like they did in February.
"Actually ire-revive natin yung ginawa natin for March hosting, pero ngayon na-push back to June," he said. "Nag-reach out ulit tayo and very positive and very supportive naman yung office nila Sec. Vince na mag-host tayo sa June."
"Nakakataba ng puso na lahat sila supportive. Nire-repaso ulit natin yung napagusapan dati."
Gilas holds a 3-0 record in Group A, with its remaining games set against Korea twice and Indonesia.
Aside from Clark, Lebanon was also named as the other bubble city, but Fiba has yet to make formal announcements with regards to the remaining set of games.
Five of the six groups have yet to complete their games, with only Lebanon, Bahrain, and host Indonesia formally qualifying for the continental tilt set this August.
