LOST in Gilas Pilipinas’ 41-point beating of Guam was the new rebounding record the Philippines registered in an Asian qualifier.
The Filipinos pounded the boards and grabbed a total of 61 rebounds in their 87-46 rout of Guam in the opener of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers on Friday night at the University of Guam Calvo Field House.
The output is now the new standard in rebounding according to FIBA, erasing the previous record of 59 shared by Iran and Lebanon.

The Cedars were the first to establish the old record against Indonesia in 2021 before Team Melli tied the mark the following year against Syria.
But the Philippines now holds the rebounding record thanks to June Mar Fajardo and Gilas Pilipinas newbie Quentin Millora-Brown who each had 10 boards, AJ Edu who had eight and Dwight Ramos with six.
Gilas' record
Out of the total rebounds, Gilas grabbed 20 off the offensive boards while all 12 players fielded by coach Tim Cone had at least a rebound each.
Gilas’ previous high in rebounding was 55 made against Saudi Arabia in 2022. That ranked No. 7 in the Top 10 rebounds in a single Asian qualifiers game along with Saudi Arabia and Australia.
It is likewise tied at 10th spot in the all-time list with 54 which it achieved in 2018 against Qatar and currently tied with Jordan, New Zealand, Syria, China, and Bahrain.
The 61 rebounds also ranked third highest in a single game of a World Cup qualifiers, just trailing the 63 which DR Congo and Angola both established.
All new FIBA records are kept since the qualifiers system were implemented in 2017.
