TERRENCE Romeo admitted support from the home crowd made a big difference on Friday night, but said Gilas Pilipinas still needs complete focus if it hopes to succeed powerhouse teams like Turkey.
"Malaking tulong 'yung crowd, 'yung homecourt advantage," Romeo said after the home team dropped a 76-84 decision to the Turkish side in a tune-up game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The win was the second is as many practice games against Gilas for Turkey, although the margin of victory was significantly lower than in a 35-point loss to the same side in Istanbul weeks ago.
Romeo had a lot of to with that, unleashing an eight-point cushion late in the fourth quarter that chopped down what once stood as a 20-point Turkey lead to just six points, 76-82, in the final minute.
He finished with 16 points.
The flamboyant GlobalPort star said Gilas needs more focus and discipline if it hopes to be successful against top teams like Turkey in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament beginning on July 5.
"Mas mabuti kung isipin namin muna 'yung sa team, kung paano gaganda tatakbuhin namin, susunod na lang 'yung crowd. Kasi alam naman natin yung suporta ng crowd natin eh grabe," said the crowd darling.
"Mas kailangan mag-focus. As much as possible, dapat magawa namain mga dapat namin gawin. Yung crowd alam naman naming nandyan lang sila at ginaganahan kami sa kanila."
