Health concerns, rush-hour traffic can't keep Terrence Romeo out of Gilas practice

EVEN though not completely healthy, Terrence Romeo continues to divide his time practicing both with Globalport and Gilas Pilipinas.

Just like on this rainy Monday when he had to rush to Bonifacio Global City and join the national team in its training straight from the Batang Pier's practice at the Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City.

Braving the rush-hour traffic, Romeo, along with Globalport teammate Von Pesumal, still managed to join Gilas halfway through its daily grind.

"Sabi ko kay Von na pilitin natin makahabol kahit anong mangyari," said Romeo while waiting for dinner to be served after Gilas' two-hour session at the Kerry Sports Manila.

"Buo rin kasi yung pasya namin na makahabol dito."

Romeo keeps up with his busy schedule even though his own health remains a concern.

Just a few weeks ago, he was downed by typhoid fever that forced him him miss the early part of Gilas' practices as well as some games of the Batang Pier in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

In Globalport's win over NLEX, he suffered cramps down the stretch and failed to finish the game.

"Concern talaga yung kundisyon ko actually kasi hindi ako 100 percent.," he disclosed. "Tapos pinipilit ko lagi maglaro, pinipilit ko lagi mag-practice."

He said a long rest is what he really needs as the wear and tear of non-stop playing is fast catching up on him.

Romeo plans to talk to Globalport management about it especially since the Batang Pier are working doubly hard with only a win to show so far in five outings.

"Hindi ko pa alam kung ano ang pwede kong gawin kasi useless din kung hindi ako nakakatulong sa team," he said.

Since the Gilas practices are not taxing yet, Romeo is keen on showing up though for the national team's daily training.

"Gusto kasi naming makahabol sa mga plays, sa five on five, para talaga makuha yung chemistry," he said.
