TERRENCE Romeo took a shot at the doubters of Gilas Pilipinas following the national team's failed campaign in the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday night.
Romeo trained his guns at doubters after the 80-89 loss to New Zealand, saying they should just be proud of the team and appreciate of the sacrifices Gilas had made to fly the flag in the tournament.
“Sa mga nagdo-doubt sa amin, sana maging proud na lang kayo sa mga sacrifice namin. Kung hindi man, sige tuloy niyo lang ‘yan. Habang buhay kayong ganyan,” said Romeo before going to the team’s bus.
Romeo’s outburst came after he was limited to only five points in the loss to the Tall Blacks that knocked Gilas out of contention in the six-team competition that took millions to stage.
Nonetheless, Romeo said he learned a lot from his experience in this tournament, particularly when he faced France star Tony Parker on Tuesday.
The GlobalPort star guard said the loss should be viewed not as an end but a new beginning for Gilas.
“Maraming learnings at maraming natutunan. Dapat hindi dito matapos. Ito ‘yung stepping stone namin para makuha namin ‘yung pangarap namin sa buhay,” said the former Far Eastern University star.
